Three Inmates Regain Freedom as Kwara Chief Judge Reviews Custodial Centre Cases
As reported by Daily Trust, three inmates have regained their freedom following the intervention of the Chief Judge (CJ) of Kwara State, Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, during his visit to the Old Oke Kura and Mandala custodial centres.
The inmates were pardoned after their cases were reviewed as part of Justice Adebara's constitutional right to perform jail delivery. Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Judge highlighted the overcrowded conditions in the state's custodial facilities and emphasized the importance of ensuring that justice is served in a timely manner.
He said, “This allows me to look into cases that have stayed long in court, inmates with terminal illness and minor offences which community service can take care of.”
He advised the released inmates to stay off crime and promised to make his visit to custodial centres for jail delivery a continuous exercise.
The state's Controller of Corrections, Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, on his part, also urged the released inmates to be of good conduct and refuse temptation to go back to crime./p>
