Family of Ritual Killing Victim Seeks Justice
According to a news report from Leadership, family members of a victim of an alleged ritual killing in Kwara State have sought the intervention of the Minister of Women Affairs to ensure justice is served.
The victim, 44-year-old Mayowa Ajiboye, was allegedly raped and murdered in February 2024 by a suspected ritualist, Yemi Atolagbe, in Aran-Orin community, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. Mayowa's corpse was reportedly burnt and thrown into a river by the suspect.
Although law enforcement has arrested the suspect, the victim's family is troubled that he has not yet been charged in court. They have called on the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure justice is served.
The victim's family, who appealed during an interview with our reporter, lamented what they described as “delayed justice”.
LEADERSHIP reports that the Kwara State police commissioner, Victor Olaiya, had some time ago paraded the suspected ritualist, saying that an investigation on the matter was ongoing.
The police spokesperson in the state, Ejire Adeyemi-Adetoun, described the suspect as a monster.
She added that investigation revealed that the suspect used a stick to hit the victim on the head, killed, raped her and then scrapped some of her pubic hair before burning the corpse for ritual.
She said the quick intervention of the police officers prevented the residents of the community where the incident happened from resorting to jungle justice.
One of the four children of the victim, who is 26 years old, and the eldest amongst them, Ayobami Oloyede, lamented the agony that the gruesome murder of Mayoba had inflicted on them.
They said the deceased was responsible for the education of her children while alive and that there is no one to play that role again.
