Kwara Assembly Passes Bills Establishing University Teaching Hospital and University of Education
According to a news report from New Telegraph, the Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) Bill 2024 and the Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bill 2024 into law.
This legislative action followed the presentation of reports by the House Committee on Health and Environment and the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development at the plenary session on Tuesday. The bills were read for the third time by the Clerk, Alhaji Ahmed Kareem, after thorough deliberation by the lawmakers, who affirmed their support for the legislation.
Mr. Rasaq Owolabi, Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Environment, presented the report on the health bill, while the report on the education bill was presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development. The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, then directed the Clerk to prepare a clean copy of the bills for the Governor's assent.
In other proceedings, the House mourned the deaths of CP Adeyinka Oyun, the Comptroller of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service, and Alhaji Abdulrazaq Bello, a journalist with Radio Nigeria and Chairman of the Kwara House of Assembly Press Corps.
Under a motion of personal explanation by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ojo Oyebode (APC/Oke Ogun), and Hon. Rukayat Shittu (APC/Owode Onire), both relying on Order 7, Rule 41 of the House, tributes were paid to the deceased. Hon. Ojo described CP Oyun, his brother, as a distinguished ambassador of Kwara State who made significant contributions in his career. Similarly, Hon. Rukayat praised Mr. Bello, who passed away suddenly after experiencing discomfort at a hospital in Ilorin, for his dedication to journalism and unwavering commitment to serving through his profession.
The Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, called for a minute of silence to honour the departed souls.
