Livestock Project Boost: Kwara State Inspects Grazing Reserve Water Initiatives
According to reports from Royal News, the Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has initiated an inspection tour to the Lata Grazing Reserve, situated in Patigi Local Government Area of the state. The aim is to assess the progress of water infrastructure projects underway at the reserve.
These projects entail the construction of two motorized solar-powered boreholes equipped with 40,000-liter steel tanks and reticulation systems to supply watering points, troughs for pasture, irrigation facilities, and communal water usage within the grazing reserve. Additionally, repairs are being made to three existing hand-pump boreholes, with provisions for watering troughs along stock routes in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the project, State Project Coordinator Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye emphasized that these endeavors align with the current administration's strategic agenda to enhance the livestock sector's development, foster market connections, and mitigate conflicts between herders and farmers.
The inspection, led by Project Animal Husbandry Officer Mr. Habeeb Tunde Affinni, aims to ensure that project implementation adheres to specified standards while providing firsthand insights into the progress at the project sites. Affinni also disclosed plans for tree planting and seeding of pasture, alongside training sessions for selected pastoralists and extension agents on advanced animal husbandry practices.
Alhaji Mohammed Juli, the Seriki Fulani of Lata-Nna, pledged to uphold the sustainability of the project through vigilant maintenance and robust protection measures against vandalism within the area.
Prior to the inspection, the team paid a courtesy visit to the District Head of Lata-Nna, Alhaji Ahmad Mohamed, to apprise him formally of the community's developmental project and solicit support for its successful execution. In response, the District Head affirmed his community's commitment to facilitating the smooth implementation of the project, ensuring its benefits for the populace and the overall advancement of the region.
