The Kwara State Government has initiated a crucial step towards maintaining a clean and hygienic environment by evacuating illegal dump sites across the Ilorin metropolis.

Mr Shehu Ndanusa, the State Commissioner for Environment, shared this update with newsmen during the evacuation process on Thursday in Ilorin.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the commissioner explained that the evacuation was necessary after residents had been repeatedly warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Ndanusa stated that the process began at the illegal dump site in Ilupeju Community, Sango/Kulende axis, within the Ilorin South Local Government Area. He assured that the evacuation would extend to other areas of the state subsequently.

“Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the evacuation of illegal dump sites across Ilorin metropolis, to restore a clean and hygienic environment.

“Also, to promote healthy living, especially now that the rainy season has begun, to ensure that we get rid of any source of hazard to the people,” he said.

Mr Ndanusa cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and emphasised the importance of engaging commercial waste collectors for proper refuse disposal.

He advised residents to cultivate healthy living habits and appreciated the support of individuals and corporate organisations in sustaining a clean environment."
