UNILORIN Splits Faculties, Departments
The authority of the University of Ilorin has approved three new faculties and four Departments in accordance with Nigeria University Commission (NUC) requilemets
Our correspondent learnt that the Senate at its 230th meeting held on January 10, 2013 presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali gave approval for the new Faculties and department which are expected to kick off in 20132014 session.
The new faculties includes Faculty of Environmental Sciences with a Departments of Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning as well as Surveying and Geo-Informatics.
The Senate Business Committee under of Prof. Bayo Lawal, as Chairman approved the splitting of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences in to Faculty of Management Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences.
The university also integrated Departments of Accounting and Finance, Business Administration and Marketing under Faculty of Management Sciences while Departments of Economics, Geography and Environmental Management , Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology would be in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ambali said the institution would now have twelve faculties, a college, institutes, schools and Centres with a student population of 30,000.
He added that the Senate also approved the splitting of Departments of Arts Education and Social Sciences Education from Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education.
Department of Science Education has also been split into the Department of Science Education and Department of Education Technology while the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is Departments were increased to ten in line with the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) rules.
