APC Chieftain Wants Tinubu to Stop Revenue Allocations to Kwara LGs
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Alhassan, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately order the Federal Revenue and Fiscal Mobilisation Commission to stop releasing the monthly statutory revenue allocations to all the 16 local governments in Kwara State until proper council elections are conducted.
Alhassan, the former Director, mobilisation South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) on the platform of Kwara Progressive Development Movement (KPDM,) at the Kwara State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre, accused the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) put in place by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq four years ago of illegalities.
According to him, the TIC setup “is contrary to the sections 7(1) and 14(1) of 1999 Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended.
“Given that the present TIC arrangement is an aberration and unknown to the 1999 constitution, president Tinubu should order the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to properly investigate all financial transactions of all TIC leaderships since inception to instill institutional transparency, financial accountability, and strengthen the democratic ethics.
“Consequently, as elites and in our capacity as primary stakeholders and major key players in the Kwara project and Nigerian nation building, we all have mandatory and moral obligation and duty to salvage, protect and promote the common interest of the present and future generations of our dear local governments and state at all costs.”
He alleged that the TIC chiefs have transformed the local governments into their personal corporation and run it as a sole proprietor, “all the local government finances and transactions are allegedly directly deposited into their personal accounts.”
Alhassan however pleaded with Tinubu to prevail on Governor Abdulrazaq to tread lightly “on the avoidable use of state power to destabilise the peaceful and harmonious socio-economic and political environment that has previously prevailed in Kwara State as demonstrated by his disregard for existing due process in the management of state affairs.”
He was a member of the APC committee on logistics and services support 2023 Tinubu/Shettima PPC and also a member, contacts and mobilisation committee, North Central zone.
