Summit Varsity Launches N5bn Development Plan
Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, is set to launch its N5 billion Development Plan during its maiden combined convocation scheduled to hold from Wednesday to Saturday, this week.
This is as governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, is billed to deliver the Convocation Lecture at the event on Saturday.
Zulum, who is the guest lecturer, is expected to speak on “The Roles and Responsibilities of the Youth in the Digital Economy” while renowned historian, Prof Oluwatoyin Falola, will give the keynote address.
Also, the ground-breaking ceremonies for the Engr. Kola Balogun College of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Engineering, the College of Innovation and Computing Technology, and the College of Postgraduate Studies will follow immediately after the lecture, while Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, Alhaji Lateef Okunnu, and Engineer Moshood Kola Balogun would be conferred with honorary doctorate degree.
The vice chancellor of the university, Prof Abiodun Aibinu, made this announcement during a virtual press interactive session that provided detailed information about the upcoming ceremony.
Members of the press, captains of industry and top management staff of the institution, including the pro-chancellor and chairman, governing council of the institution, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, will be at the event.
Aibinu noted during his virtual session that the four-day ceremony would commence from December 6 to December 9, 2023, with a press conference where numerous achievements and future goals will be unveiled.
The programmes lined up for the ceremony range from a research exhibition on December 6 to the presenting of awards of Bachelor's Degrees and prizes to the graduands of the university for the grand finale on December 9.
Aibinu said, “The four-day ceremony will commence on Wednesday, December 6th, 2023 with numerous achievements and future goals being unveiled, followed by a Research Exhibition, which will unfold the Research and Innovation Unit of the University and will run concurrently with other events daily until Saturday, December 9, 2023.
“On the 7th, the maiden convocation lecture titled, 'Revitalising the Nigerian Economy: The roles and responsibilities of the youth in the digital economy' is expected to be delivered by the Guest Lecturer, Governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Umara, while renowned historian, Prof Oluwatoyin Falola, will give the keynote address.
“On Friday, the 8th of December, 2023, the event will feature the inauguration of the Central Mosque donated by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria Northern Council and the investiture of the university's Chancellor, Alhaji (Dr.) Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa.
