Petrol pump price: Kwara Assembly moves to protect fuel consumers
Kwara State House of Assembly has asked citizens who feel short-changed by any filling station in the state to report to the appropriate authorities for redress.
The legislative arm of the government also urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to direct the state Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology to challenge its measure unit/department to rise to its responsibility of ensuring that standard weighing and measuring are strictly adhered to by petrol stations in the state.
In a resolution, Thursday on a motion on the need for government to control the short-changing of fuel consumers by petroleum marketers in the state, the House equally urged the governor to direct the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology to collaborate with the office of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to ensure sanity in the operations of fuel stations in the state.
The motion was moved by Hon. Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe) and was seconded by Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salau (Omupo).
Leading the debate, Hon. Danbaba said the Federal and the state governments are putting necessary machinery in place to cushion the effects of the petrol subsidy removal on the citizenry.
He said Nigerians are gradually getting used to the new development by effecting far-reaching adjustment to lifestyles.
He however expressed concern that some marketers have adjusted their pumps to dispense less than the quantity paid for by buyers, thereby short-changing their customers.
In another development, the House on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Kareem Olayiwola Ahmed as the new Clerk to the House.
