FG Owes Kwara N4bn on Road Project - Ahmed

Date: 2012-12-14

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara said on Thursday in Ilorin that the Federal Government was owing the state N4 billion on the rehabilitation of the Ilorin- Baruteen road.

Ahmed, who disclosed this during his monthly media chat programme, "The Governor Explains, appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in the rehabilitation of other federal roads in the state.

The governor said his administration could have embarked on the rehabilitation of other federal roads in the state, but was awaiting the Federal Government's guidelines.

He cited the Ajasse-Kabba and Pategi roads as needing urgent intervention.

Ahmed said once the Federal Government finalised the guidelines, his administration would go ahead to rehabilitate the federal roads, particularly the Kaiama-Kishi road.

The governor said his administration would also intensify efforts on refuse collection in Ilorin, adding that mobile refuse collection vans would be moved from the GRA to the heart of the city where they would be put to maximum use.

The GRA residents, he said, were expected to buy refuse bins and pay a token for refuse collection.

Ahmed appealed to residents of the state to continue to live in peace with their neighbors while maintaining law and order.

He said that the state would only develop in an atmosphere of peace and called on residents to adhere to the rule of law.

"We cannot allow anybody to take laws into his hands in the state; we will continue to ensure that the people abide by the laws of the land," he said..
