N152m Unauthorised Loan Discovered in COE Ilorin
The Kwara State Executive Council yesterday approved the setting up of a Committee to look into allegation of unauthorised loan of N152 million sought by the College of Education Ilorin.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, who stated this during a post executive council briefing, said the state government would not exonerate the institution's council members.
"Council also considered the draft White Paper on the report of the visitation Panels to the 3 Premier State-owned Colleges of Education in Ilorin, Oro and Lafiagi. The striking feature of the reports was falsification of admission enrolment; unauthorised borrowing, high-handedness and power tussle within the rank and file of the institutions' authorities.
"In view of these, Council approved the setting up of committees to look into (i) the Debt Profile of over N152m in the College of Education, Ilorin and (ii) a committee to check the appropriateness of re-introducing the IJMB programme in the College Of Education, Oro and Lafiagi without losing focus of their primary mandate."
He disclosed that the Council also directed the three colleges to discontinue all degree and outreach courses and focus on training teachers for basic education level.
He noted that instead of the Colleges to focus on the training of professional teachers, they were busy doing another thing which made it to derail from its mission.
While speaking on recent flooding that wrecked havoc in some parts of the state, Gold expressed disappointment of the Council over the delay in the implementation of HYPPADEC.
"Council expressed concern about the delay in the take-off of the Commission despite the enactment and signing into law of its Act.
"In view of the recent flood devastation and unquantifiable damages suffered by the downstream communities, council felt disturbed by the plight of the thousands of victims.
