Farmer Remanded for Killing Wife
A 65-year-old farmer, Musa Yusuf of Koshogi village, via Shonga, kwara State, who allegedly killed his wife, has been remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
The accused was said to have on November 17, 2012 murdered the 55-year-old woman having denied him sex.
Police from Lafiagi Division, Kwara State, had arrested the accused following a report by the brother of the deceased, Sanni Suleiman of Koshogi village, via Shonga that the farmer killed his sister, Fatimoh Yusuf.
According to the complainant, the deceased had gone to the farm with food for her husband but never return.
The complainant stated further that when a search party was organised, her lifeless body was found in the husband's farm concealed under weeds with violence mark on her face.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State CID, Ilorin revealed that the accused callously clubbed his wife to death and disappeared into thin air until he was traced to his hideout.
The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code Law.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Zaccheaus Funsho informed the court that investigation into the matter was yet to be completed. He objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody in Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The prosecutor submitted further that the alleged offence was capital in nature and not ordinarily bailable and that if the accused was granted bail, he might jump bail having known the gravity of the alleged offence.
The trial magistrate, Mrs. Marriam B. Ahmed upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until December 13 when the matter would come up again for further mention.
