2 Civil Servants Face Jail As 'Yahoo Yahoo' Suspects 'Jump Bail'
Two civil servants in Kwara State who stood as sureties for three internet fraud suspects risk going to jail over the forfeiture of the bail bond earlier granted by the court.
They are Adenigba Olusola, an employee of the State Judicial Service Commission and Bisiriyu Abdulfatai, a staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Adenigba had stood as surety for Amaechi Umenye and Adeyemi Adedeji, while Bisiriyu stood for Dawodu Olusoji.
The three suspects were amongst 30 internet fraudsters arrested in Offa LGA of the state recently by the EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Command.
The two civil servants had made an undertaking to produce the defendants, who are now at large, any time they were needed by the anti-graft agency.
The suspects, after their release, jumped the administrative bail granted them by the commission while the sureties also could not produce them.
In his ruling, Justice Adenike Akinpelu ordered Adenigba (surety to Amaechi) to pay the sum of N500,000 out of the N5m bond within three months or be committed to six months of imprisonment.
On Adeyemi's case, the judge ordered Adenigba to pay N250,000 within three months out of the N1m bond or be committed to prison for five months.
For Bisiriyu, who stood as surety for Dawodu, the court ordered the payment of N1m from the N3m bond within three months or be committed to six months' imprisonment.
