JAMB Registrar Cautions Against Backdoor Admissions, As NNCHS Matriculates 250
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has cautioned tertiary institutions against backdoor or illegal admissions.
Prof. Oloyede, who was represented by the Head of Professional Registration Centre (PRC) Unit, National Headquarters Annex (NHA), Ilorin, Ms. Balogun Oyelola Sherifat, gave the warning during the 3rd Matriculation of the Nigerian Navy College of Health Science (NNCHS), Offa, Kwara State, recently.
Jambulletin reports the the Registrar enjoined the authorities of the NNCHS to take advantage of the automation of the admission process through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) in the conduct of admissions into the various programmes of the institution.
According to the Registrar, CAPS streamlines the admissions process, addresses the challenges associated with the manual approach and restores the autonomy of the tertiary institutions concerning admissions, making candidates the focus by empowering them with the final decision as to whether to accept or reject particular institutions or programmes.
Furthermore, the Registrar disclosed that the CAPS platform has expanded admissions opportunities, eliminated multiple admissions, and provided easily retrievable data for decision-making and research on the education sector in the country.
He also pointed out that CAPS had helped JAMB to focus on its core objective of serving as the Clearing House for all admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Besides, Prof. Oloyede, who charged the intakes on professionalism and career development, also reiterated the stand of the Board on not condoning any illegal admissions going forward.
He therefore called on candidates not to accept any admission that falls outside the purview of the Board.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the College, Navy Cdre C A. Opara, congratulated all matriculating students and urged them to take their studies as a lifetime opportunity to launch them into the medical profession.
She urged them to imbibe three positive habits, which are Teamwork, Integrity and Professionalism and expressed her gratitude to JAMB for its constant support to the institution.
The institution matriculated 52 students into seven Departments.
