NAFDAC partners MAN, distillers to phase out sales of sachet alcoholic gins

Date: 2021-09-12

National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has hinted of plans to partner with the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN), breweries and distilleries in Nigeria to phase out production of sachet gins in the country.

The agency decried the proliferation of the gins and their high consumption rate among Nigerians.

Director-General of NAFDAC Prof Mojisola Adeyeye said this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital at the launch of a sensitisation programme against unwholesome food.

Represented by Acting Director, North Central, Mrs. Bolaji Abayomi, Prof Adeyeye said that "it is common knowledge that Nigeria has a preponderant share of the global problem of falsified medical products and unwholesome food."

She reassured that NAFDAC under her watch would not leave any stone unturned to rid the country of the menace of falsified medical products, unwholesome food, harmful cosmetics, poorly packaged water and other substandard regulated products."
