Abdulrasak Oniye, a professor at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has been appointed as dean of the faculty of education at the University of Kigali (UoK) in Rwanda.

According to NAN, UNILORIN broke the news in the latest edition of its bulletin.

The institution said Oniye competed with other professors from Nigeria, South Africa and Namibia for the position after which he was selected.

It said Oniye is a professor at the department of educational guidance and counselling, faculty of education until his recent appointment.

UNILORIN described the appointment as a "massive achievement" for itself, Kwara state and the country at large.

"He was unanimously chosen by the Council of the University. The appointment has been described as a massive achievement for his family, University of Ilorin, Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and Nigeria at large," it said.

The University of Kigali (UoK) is fully accredited by the government of Rwanda and it started operations in October 2013.
