Gov Ahmed Promises More Dividends of Democracy

Date: 2012-10-26

As muslims across the world celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed has assured Kwarans that his administration will stop at nothing towards ensuring that the people ripe the dividends of democracy, no matter their political or religious inclinations. To this end, the governor explained, government shall continue to embark on specific projects on monthly basis with a view to reaching every community in the State.

Governor Ahmed gave this assurance at the monthly Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) meeting held at the Charity Home in Ilorin. He said despite the lean fiscal resources in Kwara State, his administration has continued to deliver on its electoral promises, especially on road construction and rehabilitation, water and electricity supplies among others.

On the challenges over local government workers' salaries, Governor Ahmed told the PDP members that the impasse has been resolved as over N700million has been released to clear backlog of salaries and overhead costs.

According to him, commercial banks in the State were implored to operate on Thursday, a public holiday, so that Local Government workers and other categories of workers could make withdrawals ahead of the festival.

The Governor assured PDP faithful that modalities have been instituted to prevent circumstances that could lead to pile up of salaries in the local governments areas.

Dr. Ahmed thanked Kwarans for making the State a true State of Harmony.

Speaking, the leader of the party and former Governor of the State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki commended the governor for staying on course towards ensuring real dividend of democracy for the people. Senator Saraki, particularly appreciated the Governor for fulfilling his promise that allowances of Chairmen and members of Boards of parastatals and similar agencies would be enhanced.
