Ahmed cautions against win-at-all-cost syndrome

KWARA State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has advised participants at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Lagos State, tagged EKO 2012, to see the games as a platform for strengthening love and not a win-medals-at-all-cost competition. Speaking in Ilorin while receiving the Torch of Unity of the National Sports Festival, Ahmed noted that the games "represent a credible basis for interaction, strengthening friendship and unity among Nigerians," adding that Nigerians should use it to build strong relationships rather than trying to win by foul means.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, said the Torch of Unity was symbolic of the drive for national unity, adding that it marks the commencement of National Sports Festival.

He assured Team Kwara of government's support in order to ensure its success at the Festival.

Responding on behalf Kwara State athletes, Team Kwara Captain, Issa Abdulrahman, in assured the government and people of the state that the team would excel at the games, while commending the state government for providing the wherewithal for the team to excel at the sports fiesta.
