Petrol Price Rises to N120 Per Litre In Kwara

Date: 2012-10-25

The price of petrol has risen to N120 per litre in parts of Kwara against the official price of N97, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A correspondent of NAN reports that the price prevailed at the Total petrol station in Offa, MRS and Total in Omu-Aran, Bathlet Resources in Ajase-Ipo, Femtro Nig. Ltd. in Oke-Onigbin and Muskow in Oro

A manager in one of the stations, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the station was selling at the rate it got its supplies.

''You don’t expect us to run at a loss. We are selling at the rate it was supplied," the manager said.

NAN reports that the high petrol price has led to increase in transport fare.

Transport fare from Ilorin to Omu-Aran has risen to N450 from N300, while the fare from Ilorin to Oro is now N350 against N250.

Fare from Omu-Aran to Lagos has also increased to N2,000 from N1,700 per passenger.

Some passengers said that they were particularly worried that fares would increase further on Thursday when many people would to travel due to  the public holiday.

Alhaji Abiodun Lawal, a community leader in Omu-Aran, urged the government to find a lasting solution to the lingering fuel scarcity.

''Government should resolve the issue in the interest of the masses," he said.

Mr Bidemi Olawuyi, Chairman, Omu-Aran Development Association, said the union had appealed to the drivers to exercise restraint in increasing fares during the “Sallah" period.
