#Endsars looting: Committee on N500m recovery fund pledges transparency

Date: 2020-11-19

The eleven-man committee on the N500m Kwara State SME recovery scheme held its maiden meeting on Wednesday with a pledge to discharge its duty with utmost accountability and transparency.

Chairman of the committee and Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi, who reflected on the unfortunate incident, stated that such has never happened in the history of Kwara state.

According to him, the committee will approach its onerous assignment with the required dedication, transparency and accountability as public funds and people's livelihoods are involved.

Sympathising with affected business owners, Mr Alabi charged committee members to approach affected shop owners with sensitivity owing to the enormous losses suffered.

The Deputy Governor said 342 businesses have applied for the funds approved by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq to support businesses affected by the recent looting.

Secretary of the committee, Mohammed Brimah added that it would work with insurance adjusters to evaluate the losses in line with global best practices.

Four Sub-committees were set up with specific mandate to ensure smooth delivery of the assignment.
