Kwara Assembly Approves Budget Document
The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved a medium term fiscal frame work as a working document for the state and local governments in the preparation of their annual budget between 2013 and 2015.
The Medium Term Fiscal Frame work forward by the State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed has now become effective with the resolution of the House and would guide expenditure and revenue generation of both the state and local government councils within the period.
The Deputy Speaker Professor Mohammed Yisa Gana who presided over the sitting, praised the governor for allowing his government to be guided by the rule of law.
Presenting the notice of motion on the framework, the Majority Leader of the House, Chief AbdulGaniyu Abdulkareem explained that the framework would ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
The Chief Whip of the House Audu Seidu Liman emphasized the significance of planning, saying that, the framework would block leakages in both Ministries, Departments, Agencies in the state.
A member representing Oke-Ero Constituency Dr. Abraham Ashaolu also described the framework as a furtherance of fiscal discipline and good governance and expressed confidence that it would pave way for an accelerated development of the entire part of the state.
Mashood Bakare presenting Omupo Constituency and Alhaji Saadu Yusuf Tanke who described the document as the first of its kind, said it focused on agriculture and urged members to support the passage of the document.
Hassan Oyeleke representing Essa, Shawo Constituency, Hon. Olayonu Tope representing Ojomu Balogun Constituency and Hon. Mohammed Idirs representing Kaiama Wajebe Constituency while supporting the motion urged the House to investigate Local Government funds accruable to the State Universal Basic Education Board and pension to fast track the development at the grassroots.
The House also today received a petition written by Omo-Owo Community Development Association in Offa pleading with the state government to provide the community with new transformer to restore power to the area.
Meanwhile, the House has urged the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul Fatai Ahmed to as matter of urgent public importance approve the channelization of the run off away from Danialu Community along Gaa Akanbi/Agbabiaka road.
The House made the resolution after receiving a report of the House Committee on Energy, Works and Transport titled "Appeal To Correct the wrong Channelization of Flood at Danialu along Gaa Akanbi/ Agbabiaka road" written by Dr. A S Bakare from its Chairman Hon Mashood Bakare.
The House also directed the State Ministry of Works and Transport to be alive to its responsibility by appropriately and professionally supervising projects under its Ministry.
