Cracking underpass: Kwara orders contractor to return to site

Date: 2019-09-28

Kwara State Government has told the contractor that executed the multimillion naira Geri Alimi underpass in Ilorin to immediately return to site to rectify some parts of the project.

The project inaugurated on May 22 by ex-governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is showing signs of cracking and allegedly caused panic among the drivers and passengers passing through it to link Ilorin/Ogbomoso/Ibadan road.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kayode Alabi, who inspected the project on Thursday evening, expressed displeasure at the poor quality of job done.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bunmi Adedoyin, on Friday, Alabi said during the inspection that the cracks around the project had exposed the shoddy job done.

The statement said, "Alabi said the collapse of the water pipe - resulting in deflection of water in the area – was as a result of structural deficiency which led to the cracks in some portion of the bridge."

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Alhaji Garuba Manjo, however, allayed the fears of residents that the cracks would not pose danger to them.
