PRESS RELEASE

Date: 2018-08-13

The Attention of the Management of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin has been drawn to some trending fake news items on the social media. The fake news has it that the Provost of the College Dr. AbdulRaheem Yusuf led the student peaceful rally to the Government House in the early hours of today and that some students were injured in the rally while some vehicles were vandalized by the students.

The College wishes to state unequivocally that the Provost of the College, as a peace loving administrator and an advocate of stable academic calendar who believes in negotiation as a way of solving problems, will not mastermind such an unpopular act let alone be an active participant.

Earlier in the day, when the students came to lay their grievances before the Provost, as a father, he informed them that the State Government was already addressing all the issues raised by the aggrieved students. He therefore pleaded with them to go back to their respective hostels, lecture rooms or library as the case may be in continuation of their readiness for the ongoing second semester examination.

How could, a person who did this and immediately went into a close-door meeting with the union leaders, have been the mastermind of the said rally. (A video clip of the Provost's address to the students is available in the College for clarifications)

We equally wish to state that while no vehicle was neither destroyed nor vandalized, not a single student was injured in the process. Parents and the general public are to therefore note for the purpose of emphasis that uninterrupted academic activities and the safety of our students is of utmost importance to us in the College. The fake news, which as far as the College is concerned is a figment of the imaginations of the College's enemies, who are bent on peddling rumors deliberately meant to malign her image and undermine the good work of the Dr. AbdulRaheem Yusuf led administration, should be disregarded.
