Meeting with Saraki: Kwara PDP youths angry, demand apology from Secondus
Date: 2018-07-22
Some aggrieved youths in Kwara state state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the aegis of Kwara Strategic Alliance (KSA), has condemned the recent visit of the national leadership of the party to the state without the knowledge of the state party executives, and demanded for unreserved apology from the national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
The youths particularly described the development as a show of disrespect for the state chairman, state central working committee and all PDP members in the state.
Recall that the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus recently visited Ilorin, the state capital to attend the 8- day Fidau prayer of the late mother of a chieftain of Reformed All Progressives Congress(APC) Alhaji Kawu Baraje.
Secondus and other PDP stalwarts like Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, former Jugawa state governor and a presidential hopeful of PDP, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Senator Barbanabas Gemade later after the prayer held a meeting with the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki at his country home, Ilorin.
Sunday Vanguard reliably gathered that the development has continued to give the state chapter of the PDP sleepless night over what they allegedly considered a plan to woo Dr. Saraki back to PDP.
The state chapter of PDP also viewed the visit of national chairman of the party, Prince Secondus without the knowledge of the state chairman of PDP, Iyiola Oyedepo and other state working committee of the party as uncalled for since the party had earlier insisted that they can win elections in the state without the coming of Dr Bukola Saraki,so they should stay away from their party.
But addressing journalists in Ilorin on Saturday at state PDP secretariat along Asa Dam, Ilorin, the coordinator and spokesperson of the group, Busayo David and Ibrahim Sheriff, respectively, demanded a sincere apology from the national chairman of the party for not carrying members along on his recent visit to the state, calling on him to retrace his steps and work in the interest of members.
They, therefore, called on Prince Secondus-led administration of the party to bring back political morality and social sanity to the PDP to enable the party knock out her reputational challenges.
They also said that members of the PDP in the state were kept in the dark over basis for the relationship with politicians who are not members of the party.
The youth group, which vowed not to allow any attempt to undermine the party constitution and membership in the state, said that every interested new entrant to the party should apply to their wards.
According to the angry youths,, "We will resist with every legal means in our disposal to prevent any attempt to hand over, even a ward structure, to any new entrant into the party.
"The PDP is, by the nature of its name and ideological inclination, a party that believes strongly and abides by democratic tenets and the rule of law.
"It is our conviction that the PDP constitution clearly states the procedure for admitting new members into the party which is a bottom up approach. Why is the national working committee of the PDP acting against its own constitution and principles just to please someone and his cohorts? Is this not an indication that the party is positioning itself as a lawless and immoral one with no iota of respect for its own members and constitution?
"Why should this be done to the whole structure of the PDP in Kwara state that has given its all to the party?"
"We also demand unreserved apology from our national chairman, and urged him to stay within the constitution of the party, which they all sworn to uphold in the interest of the larger members of the party"
