Governor Ahmed Pledges to Prioritise School Sports

The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has promised to give School Sports priority to pave room for grassroot sports development in the State. The Governor while speaking at the government House during the presentation of Athletes who represented Kwara at the ECOWAS junior Championship recently held in Cape Cost Ghana. The governor who directed the Ministry of Sports and youth developments to come up with proposal that will give priority and encourage school Sports saying," this is where we can discover a lot of talents that will represent our state and country in the sports competition around the world."The Governor also commanded the Chairman of the Athletic federation for his commitments, zeal and dedication in ensuring the discovery of Athletes that are making the state proud. He said in the past, talents were discovered in Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions
In Kwara state, we are going to work very hard through the Ministry of Sports to see that we optimise the potentials of the youths in Kwara State.The Governor promised to see to the request of the Association that the state should participate in the World Junior Athletics Competition holding in Finland and charged them to redouble their efforts by dedicating to the development of their chosen career and bring home the glory to Kwara state. Kwara Athletes, players and Coaches who participated in the ECOWAS Junior Championship recently held in Cape Cost Ghana were presented to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abfulfatah Ahmed at Government House Today
Speaking at the official presentation, the former Chairman of the Athletics Federation and Current Vice President of CAA Region 2 in West African Athletics, Alhaji Babatunde Abdulkareem, thanked Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed for the support and assistance being given to the Association. said the purpose of their coming was to appreciate and present the players to Governor Dr. AbdulFatah Ahmed and also to intimate him on the next movement of the Association Abdulkareem who also appreciated the Kwara Internal revenue service for sponsoring the team to represent Kwara State in the competition saying, without their financial support and sponsoring of the Athletes they might not have recorded the achievement The team made up of four players and one coach, including Joy Abu, David Olowokere, Muhammed Yusuf, Esther Akindele and Coach Adeyemi Abiodun, won Five Gold, Five silver and one Bronze medal among others at the competition. The Team will now represent Nigeria in the World Junior Championship holding in Finland between 9th and 18th of July 2018. The Governor also congratulated the Minisitry of Sports and Youth Development under the headship of Hon. Muideen Alalade for a job well done and urged them to continue to do their best to bring more laurels to the state.
