NLC leader cautions against politicizing funds approved for fighting insurgency

Date: 2018-04-07

A member of the National Executive of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Issa Aremu has described as unnecessary and unhelpful the politicization of the approval of the one billion Naira for the army against Boko Haram insurgency and violent crimes across the country.

Comrade Aremu who made this remark in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin , the Kwara state capital, noted that the security agencies particularly the military and police must be well equipped to combat criminals in the country.

The NLC boss said what Nigerians must insist on is accountability on the part of the security agencies for all the resources made available to them .

He suggested that there should be sanction for non performing security agencies while there should also be reward for all security agencies that protect lives and properties.

Reacting to the robbery incident that took place on Thursday at Offa where many people were killed including policemen, Comrade Aremu lamented that it was unacceptable that Nigeria lacked governance with respect to security of lives and properties as contained in the 1999 constitution regretting that without an official declaration of war , Nigerians die daily in the hands of armed robbers and criminals.

The Labour leader commemorated with the Olofa of Offa , the people of Offa, the government and people of Kwara state over the armed robbery attack stressing that the incident had undermined the ease of doing as well as the ease of living .

He implored the police to fish out the criminals and ensure that they face justice, and called for adequate compensation for the victims of the robbery attack as well as the slain police personnel.
