Strike Grounds Activities In FGCs

Date: 2017-05-15

Parents Teachers Associations in Kwara state, yesterday appealed to the federal government to wade into the industrial action embarked upon by the Association of Senior Staff of Nigeria (ASON) in the 42 Federal Government Colleges in the country.

The PTAs Federal Government College, Ilorin and Federal Government Girls College, Omu-Aran, in a statement jointly issued, lamented that the two-week-old-strike had grounded academic activities in the colleges.

"The statement was signed by PTA chairman, FGC, Ilorin , Alhaji Saka Agarawau and that of Omu-Aran by Prince J .A Fabiyi , PTA Public Relations Officer,FGC, Ilorin, Lawal Dauda Olusola and that of FGC, Omu-Aran, Mr. Afolayan S. O.

The associations regretted that the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the workers had negatively impacted on the academic progress of children and the schools.

"We are appealing to the federal ministry of education to please look into the ongoing strike of ASON to ensure that the strike is called off because our children are in school suffering and the strike is having untold hardship on parents.

"For two weeks now, our children have not been taught in school because of the ongoing strike, teachers who are willing to teach were being prevented from doing so because of the strike. This is particularly happening in two schools in kwara state and 42 schools nationwide.

"We are also calling on the striking workers to adopt dialogue in pressing home their demands in the interest of the children", the statement reads.
