On July 16, the taxi driver was on his way from Eiyenkorin enroute Lasoju village, when two young boys of about 20 years old standing by the roadside at Araromi village flagged down the taxi cab.

However, in the course of the journey, the two passengers later turned out to be armed robbers when they suddenly brought out machetes from their bag and threatened to kill the driver if he failed to surrender his car key. Consequently, they dispossessed him of his car and pushed him down while they escaped.

A police source who didn't want to be named, said the victim immediately raised the alarm and went after the sus­pects with the assistance of other sym-pathizers.

The two suspects who were driving on high speed in a bid to escape lost control of the vehicle and had an accident at Idiemi village. One of the robbers was arrested at the scene, while the second suspect who escaped from the scene of the accident was later arrested within the village and the two machetes used in robbing the victim were recovered from them.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Fabode said: "Upon the arrest of the sus­pects, they were interrogated by the police. They both confessed to the rob­bery. Investigation conducted by the police has indeed revealed that the two suspects are in Ibadan, Oyo State from where they travelled to Ilorin on same day July 16, for the purpose of commit­ting robbery. They will soon appear in court," he said.
