KWASU set to host NUGA Preliminaries

Date: 2017-03-22

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is set to host the Zone 'B' Preliminaries for the 2017 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA). Twelve universities that make up the zone would participate in 13 sporting events billed to take place between 4th and 9th April, 2017.

The participating universities would compete in athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, volleyball, handball, judo, taekwondo, squash, tennis, table tennis, swimming and football.

Being its first time to host the games, KWASU has assured the participating institutions of a hitch-free competition. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, gave the assurance when a team of sports administrators from the zone paid him a courtesy call in his office, recently.

Na'Allah stated that the University was fully prepared to host the competition, adding that a number of facilities would be upgraded to meet the standards of the games. "We will make you feel at home," he assured.

He described KWASU as a sports-loving University, saying "If you are a sports person, the tendency is that you will be a good leader, because you tend to recognise everybody for collaboration and negotiation."

Earlier, the Sports Director of the University, Professor Mohammed Baba Gambari, who led the team on the courtesy call, had said the purpose of the visit was to hold a meeting and inspect the sporting facilities available, to ascertain their suitability for the games.
