KWIRS spends N28m to renovate three markets in Kwara

The Kwara Internal Revenue Service says it had spent over N28m for the renovation of three markets at different parts of the state within the last three months.

The Chairman of the Kwara internal revenue service, Dr Muritala Awodun disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin Friday.

He said the three markets two of which were damaged by outbreak of an inferno are Owode market in Offa, Cattle market at Ajaseipo and Baboko market in llorin.

Awodun said a sum of N11.5m was spent to renovate 45 burnt shops at Baboko market, N12m was spent for the renovation of Ajaseipo Cattle market while N5m was used to complement the renovation of Owode burnt market.

The chairman said the state internal revenue service embarked on the renovation of these markets as part of its social responsibility function to residents of the state.

He said the aim was also meant to give the traders a sense of belonging and make revenue collection at the market devoid of any hitch.

Awodun reaffirmed the determination of the revenue service to continue embarking on projects that would impact positively on the lives of all the residents of the state.

He assured all communities in the state that the service would continue to feel the presence of the service in the areas of education, environment, empowerment, enterprise and employment.

"Before demanding payment of tax from any individual, organizations or groups, you need to make them happy, we are embarking on community projects to make residents of the state happy", he said.

Awodun said a sum of N4m was approved monthly for the execution of community projects in various communities and normally request for extra budgetary approval for proper execution of the projects.

He said the service was currently embarking on evacuation of refuse and sand from drainages at different parts of llorin metropolis to allow free flow of water that normally damaged the roads.
