STORM: Rainstorm Renders 250 Residents Homeless In Ilorin

Wind storm that accompanied an heavy downpour in Ilorin, Kwara state on Sunday rendered over 250 residents homeless .

The heavy downpour which lasted for over two hours damaged over 50 residential buildings, two transformers and over 100 electricity poles.

Areas affected by the rainstorm included Egbejila, Ajegunle, Odoore, Bayi, Ilu-Oba and Oko-Ode among others, all in llorin West local government area.

Roofing sheets of many buildings were blew off by the wind, while household furniture and electronics were not speared by the disaster. The victims are taking refuge in Mosques and neighbourhood not affected.

The Magaji Egbejila community, Alhaji Muhammad Jamiu said the rainstorm wreaked havoc in the community.

He lamented the destruction of electric poles which he said required urgent attention of the appropriate authorities.

The technical manager of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (lBEDC),Baboko branch, llorin, Mr Adeyemi Taiwo said the company has commenced repair works on the damaged poles.
