Kwara government engages consortium to screen workers
The Kwara State Government has engaged the service of three banks to screen all workers in the state and local governments, in order to reduce waste in the system.
The consortium which includes, the Guaranty Trust Bank, Eco Bank and Skye Bank, is expected to work with the verification committee headed by the state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed.
They are to begin physical screening on Tuesday
The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Media and Communications, Dr Muideen Akorede disclosed this on Monday in an exclusive interview with VON Correspondent at the Government House, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, North Central Nigeria.
Dr Akorede noted that the consortium had done it successfully in many states and would replicate the success in Kwara State to cleanse the state of ghost workers.
The SSA Media and Communications added that the government would centralize its employment and leverage on the use of technology through the office of the Head of Service to have a factual database of all workers in the state and local governments.
Dr Akorede said the state government is committed to transparency and would unravel and publish all the culprits and perpetrators of multiple salaries and fake Bank Verification Numbers.
He added that the new salary profile of the state would be unveiled on the thirtieth of June when the consortium is done with the verification exercise, pointing out that after the exercise, government would be able to meet its financial obligations without relying on Internally Generated Revenue.
Speaking on the proposed twenty billion naira bond, Dr Akorede disclosed that the bond would be in two tranches.
After a check on Kwara's financial status by Debt Management Office, the state government would obtain the first tranche of ten billion naira.
According to him, this first tranche would be expended on the dualization of Sango-UITH road, Michael Imoudu-Ganmo road, Geri Alimi fly over and the two campuses of the Kwara State University at Osi and Ilesha Baruba.
