Cleric blames nation’s insecurity on leaders’ insensitivity
Lack of care for the poor and gross insensitivity to their plight by Nigerian leaders is responsible for the insecurity confronting the country, a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor has said.
Pastor Sunday Akande of the RCCG Region 4 stated this yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, when the church presented food items, toiletries and scholarships to the Child Reception Centre, a motherless home.
Pastor Akande said the insecurity was brought about by the leaders' nonchalant attitude to the poor.
He said: "The less privileged children, who had not been cared for by the system grow up to become ready tools for terrorism as we now witness in Nigeria in form of the dreaded Boko Haram sect and the recruited suicide bombers."
The cleric called on the government to provide adequate care for the less privileged with a view to prevent imminent insecure future that may become the attendant effect of a continued uncared attitudes towards them.
Akande also urged the rich to assist in taking care of the less privileged.
He particularly urged them to cultivate the habit of giving to the motherless homes, reformatories and orphanages as a way of securing a violent-free future.
Earlier, Pastors Akinola Akogun and Biodun Fagbemi, who were the coordinators of the Corporate Social Responsibility group of the church, said the project was at the instance of the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
They said: "The church does not have to cater for the spiritual needs of the populace alone, but also meet the dire needs of the people in the most meaningful way."
