Emir calls for women empowerment

Date: 2016-01-29

Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has described women as major component of the nation-building that must be well catered for in the society.

Sulu-Gambari stated this yesterday in Ilorin at his palace when the national leadership of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), led by its President, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowale, paid him a courtesy visit.

The monarch however appealed to government at all levels to fast- track policy thrusts that will further empower the women folk.

"Education is life, women must be well groomed with morality to further enrich the cultural image of the country which is fast losing her historical recognition due to ill-knowledge and political unrest among other decadence.

Earlier, Omowole, pledged that the association will continue to trace the history of the nation through traditional institutions across the country for a better nation-building process.

Meanwhile, female journalists in the country have been charged to imbibe the culture of developmental reportage on gender issues, so as to project, promote and re orientate Nigerians perspectives towards women in the County.

Omowole stated this on Wednesday at a one day Workshop, on 'Gender Sensitive Reporting for Women Journalists' organized by West African Journalists Association (WAJA), held at the Kwara NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin.
