My Wife's Death Shocking - Issa Aremu

Date: 2015-12-21

The General Secretary, National Union of Garment and Textile Workers, Comrade Issa Aremu on Sunday described the death of his wife, Hamdalat as a tough one for him.

The labour leader who spoke at the fidau prayer for Hamdalat in Ilorin, Kwara state said he never believed he would bury his wife.

While holding back tears, Aremu thanked Nigerians, including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari for standing by him, describing his late wife as "very dutiful and loving wife".

"It is a big vacuum to me. It is a tough one for me. I never knew I would bury my wife. I have always believed that she would be the one to bury me. I also planned to celebrate her birthday in a special way", he said.

The Imam Imale of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdullahi AbdulHameed, at the fidau reminded Muslim faithful to remain steadfast and committed to the display of exemplary characters and good deeds that would earn them great rewards from Almighty Allah.

He said the day of reckoning is real and inevitable, adding that every mortal should prepare for death as it's inevitable.

He emphasized that the deeds of every individual in this earthly world would not go on unaccounted for in the day of resurrection. He said Muslims should strive to increase the volume of their good exemplary characters to prepare for the day of resurrection.

They should also prioritize alms giving and charity works, he advised, stressing that every good deed no matter how small and insignificant would be duly rewarded.

He added that the faithful should always demonstrate their strength in faith at a time of trial, noting that Almighty Allah usually tests the believer to ascertain the strength of their faith.

Grand Mukadam of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Dan Borno who was the guest speaker stressed that the death of Hajia Hamdalat was a trial for her husband and the entire family.

He said they should not be weighed down by the sudden death, even as he urged others to accept the superiority of Almighty Allah in every situation.

Dignitaries at the fidau were Deputy National president, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Alhaji Usman Najeem Yasin; a business mogul, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim; an Ilorin-based, Mallam Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali; Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba Abdulrazak Afolabi Ojoku and prominent Islamic scholars.
