Share-Tsaragi Land Dispute: 20 Injured, as Communities Engage in Gun Duel

Date: 2015-12-20

No fewer than 20 people were reportedly injured on Saturday during the communal clash between the people of Share town and Tsaragi town in Kwara state.

Already, the state police command has drafted a team of mobile policemen to the warring towns so as to maintain peace and order, THISDAY learnt.

Share, the home-town of Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed in Ifelodun local government council, and Tsaragi town in Edu local government council of the state have been at loggerheads for the past few years over a boundary dispute.

THISDAY checks revealed that the incident happened following information that the people of Share have been embarking on tree felling on a land allegedly said to belong to Tsaragi town.

The development according to sources prompted the people of Tsaragi to mobilise themselves out and engage the people of Share in a gun duel?. During the attack according to eye witness account from the two towns, at least 20 people were said to have sustained serious injuries, with no death recorded yet at the time of filing this report.

Sources said schools allegedly belonging to Share town have been vandalised by the irate youths of Tsaragi, and added that, the anti-riot policemen drafted to the towns have taken over the areas so as to maintain peace and order.

?

Contacted, the state police command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi who confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin yesterday said the state police command has drafted men of anti-riot policemen to the two towns of Share and Tsaragi in order to maintain peace and harmony in the area.

He said, "As of now, there is no any arrest and numbers of those actually injured in the face-off but the anti-riot policemen have been drafted to Share and Tsaragi to maintain peace".

He however appealed to the people of both towns to continue to shun any act capable of affecting peaceful co-existence of the areas.
