We will continue to set the pace - Unilorin
The authority of University of Ilorin has expressed its commitment to continue in setting pace for other Universities to emulate in the area of quality research, innovations as well as uninterrupted academic programmes.
The Deputy Director Corporate Affairs of the University, Mr. Kunle Akogun, stated this on Monday when he received delegations from the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero , KSUSTA, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
The visiting team was led by the Head of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry of the University, Dr. Haruna Yusuf, Staff Adviser, Mrs. Misitura Lawal and SIWES Cordinator, Mr Cosmas Elinge with over 40 students who are on a-three day excursion to Kwara State.
Mr. Akogun who assured the team that UNILORIN will not relent in its endeavours to continue as the 'University of Choice' for applicants across the country noted that the strides by the university was honoured by the federal government by conferring national honour on both its immediate past and current Vice Chancellors, Professors Ishaq Oloyede and Abdulgaiyu Ambali respectively.
He however furnished the team with brief historical background of the university with a charge that Kebbi State varsity should always keep close touch in order to stand out among its contemporaries in the country.
"Your visit to us is so unique and it will continue to linger in our memory because you are the first University that will visit us here at 89.3 Unilorin FM. With this, you have indeed demonstrated your quest for academic excellence and desire to developing your students in all facets of academic endeavours. Please keep it up.
"Although, ours is a community radio but I can assure you that we can favourably compete with other radio stations across the country. Right now, arrangement has also been concluded to set up a Television State in the University", he added.
Also speaking, the UNILORIN's Studio Manager, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Durodola , commended the staff and students of the Kebbi State University for deeming it fit to visit the University especially the 89.3 FM radio station even as he conducted the team round the media facilities.
In his response, the leader of the team, Dr. Haruna Yusuf eulogized the authority of the University of Ilorin for its uninterrupted academic programme over years stressing that "As our mother-university our visit today has further endorsed your leadership roles among tertiary institutions across the country.
"On behalf of my Vice Chancellor, Professor Bello Shehu Malami , I thank the authority of the University of Ilorin for building some of our colleagues who are undergoing their Doctoral Research Programmes here. We will continue to emulate you because we also desire to grow and wish to surpass you in the nearest future", he said.
