Group empowers women farmer in Kwara
Centre for Community Empowerment and Poverty Eradication (CCEPE), has organised practical training for women farmers in Kwara to enhance agricultural production.
The farmers under the aegis of Smallholder Farmers Association of Nigeria (SHOWFAN) received training on ways of farming for higher productivity.
The participants, who were later grouped, demonstrated how to plant crops like maize, beans, groundnut, cassava and yam among others.
The training held at Afon, the headquarters of Asa Local Government Areas, drew participants from rural areas across the state.
The facilitator, Mr. Umar Olarewaju, who was an official of the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, said that the training would improve their productivity if they put into practice what they learnt.
Olarewaju described loamy soil as the most useful and beneficial soil for farming, saying the soil is fertile and would produce good yields.
He told the women farmers to always consider the type of soil, seed to be planted, adequate care for farming such as weeding and use of herbicide to spray farm among others before embarking on farming.
