Date: 2015-10-26

The Medical and Dental Counci?l of Nigeria (MDCN) at the weekend raided an illegal hospital in Ilorin, Kwara state capital where different documents and a medical certificate is believed to be stolen were found.

?Springsway Hospital, located in a hidden corner of Oko Erin area of the state capital operated 24 hours services but has caused many people their lives, Daily Trust learnt.

Head of Inspectorate of MDCN Dr. Okwuokenye Henry? who was in Ilorin on the instruction of the council's registrar, Dr. Abdulmumini Ibrahim, said the council received a petition against the hospital that it was operated by an unqualified doctor who had been carrying out surgeries and fertility operations on patients. ?He said "We received petition in my office in Abuja that somebody who had PhD in human kinetics ?and also a lecturer with University of Ilorin named Dr. Olaitan O. Lanre opened a hospital in Oko Erin in Kwara and has been working as a doctor carrying out surgeries on people and fertility operations.

?

"During the raid, we discovered that the letter for the registration of the hospital was written by the fake doctor who used the name of one Dr. Jimoh A.A as the overseer of the hospital and another Dr. Adeyemi as the medical director in charge of the hospital." ?Dr Henry? said investigations showed that both doctors denied knowing Lanre who opened the hospital while Dr. Adeyemi who he is said to be the medical director and whose certificate was also used to register the hospital works with the hospital management board in Ibadan according to his file. "Lanre's operations at the hospital is totally fraud," Dr Henry said.

He added that "When we got to the place with police men, we met the place under lock and key which shows that he has been informed of our coming but some staff of the hospital were hovering around the place. Two were arrested but police are already interrogating them." Henry also said that he already alerted Unilorin about the illegal activities of the doctor who is also a staff of the institution.

The head of the inspectorate said the two doctors indicted by the documents found at the hospital have been summoned to appear before the council. Director of Medical Services and Training Kwara at the state's ministry of health Dr. Subair Erubu, told Daily Trust that Lanre used the name of one Professor Jimoh and another Dr. Adeyemi with his licence to register the hospital.

"The hospital didn't register as a hospital but as a clinic and maternity to carry out minor treatments on people. But we are surprised that the clinic has gone beyond what is expected of it by carrying out surgeries for cases that do not even require such," Erubu said. Meanwhile, the medical council has ordered the closure of the clinic pending when all issues are addressed while the police have been asked to arrest Olaitan O. Lanre.
