Sallah: Kwara police to deploy 2,000 officers
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Esosa Amadasun, on Monday said 2,000 police personnel would be deployed to maintain security during the Sallah festival.
The commissioner made this known on Monday at a press conference in Ilorin where he paraded some suspects arrested for various offences in the state.
Mr. Amadasun said the police command was living up to the task of protecting lives and properties in the state, particularly during festivals.
He said the heightened security was based on information received that some public officers might be pelted with missiles and sachet water at the Eid praying ground in the state capital.
Among suspects paraded by the police commissioner was a cyber cafe operator who was arrested for allegedly selling fake police recruitment forms to unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspect operated his business at a computer centre on Murtala Mohammed Way, Ilorin, where he conspicuously displayed the notice of sale of recruitment form.
Also paraded was a suspected fraudster said to be collecting money from innocent candidates seeking admission into the University of Ilorin.
He was said to have collected N450, 000 from one Olawuyi Olufemi to help him get admission into the university where the suspect claimed to be lecturing.
Also paraded were four suspects arrested for kidnapping one Aliyu Abubakar at Langorin Fulani Camp, Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area.
Another suspect was arrested for conniving with an anonymous phone caller to plan the kidnap of his brother, one Mohammed Keremi.
He was said to have collected N100, 000 out of the demanded N200, 000 from the victim before he was arrested.
