Children's Day: Ahmed calls for end to violence
Governor Ahmed in a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Alhaji Abdulwahaab Oba, to commemorate the 2012 Children's Day, noted that continuous exposure of children to violence of different forms poses danger not only to the children, but the nation as a whole, as children are vital link in the chain of continuity of the Nigerian Nation.
The governor also advised parents, guardians and other stakeholders to use the celebration to encourage their children to imbibe our core values of sanctity of life rather than foreign values that have virtually eroded our national heritage of being our brother's keeper. Alhaji Ahmed restated his desire to ensure adequate job and wealth creation, promote youth entrepreneurship through support for micro, small and medium scale enterprises and develop youth capacity with skill acquisition and vocational training in order to positively engage the youth and check restiveness.
He stressed the need for governments at all levels to create enabling environment for institutions of learning that would ensure their products are well equipped as agents of change in the country. Parents and guardians, Governor Ahmed added, should encourage their wards to also learn Nigerian languages instead of the present imperious crave for English language, as educationalists have proved beyond doubt that a child develops better through the use and mastery of his mother tongue. Alhaji Ahmed urged parents to create more time for their children to become dependable leaders of tomorrow.
