Opinion: On National Assembly leadership By Mohammed Tukur Usman
The Far North/Hausa-Fulani may shoot themselves in the foot if they don't handle selection of the National Assembly leadership aright. The outcome of the election has seen some forum of unity returning to the North; what with the support Buhari received from the Middle Belt, especially Benue, Kogi and Kwara. A strategic step would be to give Senate presidency to Benue or Kwara to help firm up the new alliance. The North-East should be content with deputy's post. North- East and North-West are like Siamese twins in the context of Nigerian politics: one should be content with being represented by the other. If care is not taken the personal interest of candidates from the two zones will torpedo the new-found alliance. Politicians from the zones are already displaying the usual arrogance, forgetting that it was the votes of the North-Central and the South- West that saw Buhari over the top.
