Governor Bukola felicitates with Guardian Newspapers

Date: 2009-11-23

Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki has felicitated with the Management and Staff of Guardian Newspapers Limited over its awards as the best Newspaper and Editor of the year 2008 by the Nigeria Merit Awards (NMMA) Foundation.

Dr Saraki, in a congratulatory message to the organization, described the two awards as well deserved considering The Guardian’s leadership position as Nigeria’s flagship in the media industry.

He urged the management to regard the awards as the product of team work among the staffers and reward for hard labour as well as additional challenges to professionalism with enormous social responsibility.

"By these awards, you have confirmed your leadership position in the industry, I therefore congratulate you for distinguishing yourself and urge you to maintain the standard", Saraki said.

He, however, appealed to the entire staff of the newspaper house to continue to give their maximum cooperation to the management and display high degree of commitment to duty to attain greater heights and to also give their professional support towards sustaining the country’s democratic experiment.

A total of 47 awards in various categories were won by media practitioners at the 19th edition of the NMMA held in Enugu, which also attracted dignitaries from all walks of life.
