Panic grips Kwara commissioners as lobby intensifies
Following the re-election of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, commissioners and other appointees of the government have begun intense lobbying to retain their positions in government, Daily Trust learnt.
Daily Trust correspondent gathered that sack fever has gripped most of the appointees amidst report that Ahmed would inject new blood into the administration.
It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all elections in the state, capturing all the nine National Assembly seats and 24 seats in the state legislature.
It was, however, learnt that the performance of the appointees in the just concluded elections in their respective polling units would determine their continued stay in office.
A source told Daily Trust that every political appointee was mandated, prior to the elections, to submit results of their polling units and wards as soon as the results were declared. The directive was duly complied with, it was learnt.
"That was why you see every political office holder in the state rushing to the Iloffa residence of the APC leader, Senator Bukola Saraki, on the night of the elections to submit their results. This has been the practice in the state. The intent is to avoid the axiom, "monkey dey work, baboon dey chop" said a source who is an APC chieftain.
A commissioner who confirmed the development to our correspondent said the lobbying was normal after elections.
However, he said there was no need for panic, especially for those who realised that power belongs to God and He alone gives it to whom He wishes, adding that an appointee of government who is confident of his performance would have no cause to panic.
When contacted, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr. Muideen Akorede, said he was not aware of any lobbying by political office holders.
