Polls: Kwara House hails INEC

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday reconvened after a long recess with a commendation for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the successes recorded in the 2015 general elections.

Speaker of the House, Barrister Razaq Atunwa specifically commended the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, the state INEC and all the security agencies for for conducting free, fair and credible election.

Atunwa noted that the election in Kwara was devoid of malpractice and violence, saying INEC had helped in deepening the country’s democracy.

He therefore urged the newly elected officeholders not to misuse the mandate given to them by people, saying they should work assiduously to better the lives of their people.

Daily Trust reports that only six members of the current assembly were re-elected. They included Hon. Moshood Bakare (Omupo); Segilola Abdulkadir (Ilorin Central); Kamal Fagbemi (Oke Ogun); Hassan Oyeleke (Essa/Sawo/Igboidun) and Ebun Owolabi (Ekiti).

However, two of the members, the Speaker (Owode/Onire) and Hon. Tope Olayonu (Ojomu/Balogun) have been elected into the House of Representatives for Ilorin West/Asa and Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun/Ekiti federal constituencies respectively.

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has forwarded the Kwara State Public Private Partnership Bill 2015 to the house for consideration and passage into law.
