Goodnews for couples facing difficulties in child-bearing, as UITH becomes new centre for assisted reproduction

THE University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) has joined the ranks of hospitals in Nigeria with Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) facilities.

Sited in its Obstetrics and Gynecology (O and G) Department, the UITH aims to provide succour for couples with conception challenges, according to Chief Medical Director, UITH Prof. AbdulWaheed Olatinwo.

Olatinwo added that the UITH now had the capacity to cater for those undergoing cancer treatment that could damage their reproductive systems by keeping their specimen in Cryo incubators operating under the temperature of 192 degrees centigrade.

Besides, the hospital could also remove cysts, carry out tubal disconnection, do donor insemination and help in producing test tube babies, among others.
