Kwara Gets Committee On IDPs
The Kwara State Security Council has constituted a committee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) .
According to the state government, the committee was set up to manage possible influx of people from the troubled north -eastern states.
Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the security meeting presided over by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the state, Barr. Kamaldeen Ajibade said the committee headed by the deputy governor, Elder Peter Kishira would "work out modalities and put structures in place for managing the possible influx of IDPs into the state in view of its security implication as well as potential pressure on social and physical infrastructure in the state."
"Kwara state as a peaceful atmosphere has in recent times witnessed an expansion of the state population. While council welcomes the situation as potentially beneficial to the state economic and social life, it re-emphasized the need for greater vigilance on the part of security agencies and the public to prevent the infiltration of the state by criminal elements," he said.
The Council, he said called on landlords to properly scrutinise potential tenants before accommodating them in their houses.
He recalled the recent shoot-out between the security agencies and a suspected hoodlum, saying he was accommodated by the landlord without knowing his backgrounds.
Ajibade warned that people should be wary of offering genuine assistance to people with ulterior motive".
The commissioner said that investigation is still ongoing to determine the identity of the suspected criminal who was gunned down after a 10-hour shootout with a combined team of the Air Force and Army.
"Investigation is still ongoing on that incidence. The DSS is on top of that issue. That was why I called him a suspected Boko Haram. From all what they have seen, the kind of ammunition that the suspect was carrying is related to what could make us to believe that this is beyond the issue of armed robber."
