Appointees Accuse Kwara CAN Of Inciting Christians Against Buhari, Ahmed

Date: 2015-03-11

Christians appointees in Kwara State on Tuesday accused a section of the state's chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of inciting Christian faithful in the state against the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed.

The appointees who are operating under the aegis of Conference of Christians in Government of Kwara state, therefore urged the security agents operating in the state to immediately arrest and prosecute all individuals hiding under the guise of religion to cause disaffection among the people of the state.

The appointees in a communique issued at the end of their extra ordinary conference in Ilorin, the state capital noted that the activities of "these agents of division and discord have great security implications which should not be allowed, because of its connectivity to the inter-religious platform and traditional institutions."

In the communiqué signed by Engr. Christopher Ayeni, chairman, and Ayotunde Oyeniyi, secretary of the conference, the governor's aides said 2we found as a fact and uncontroverted that the dubious seminar on the dastardly acts of Boko Haram in the North eastern part of Nigeria was sponsored by a few disgruntled and undesirable elements hiding under the cover of Kwara Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) anchored and masterminded by one Dr. Olusola Ajolore and his cohorts.

"That the destabilizing agents of a section of Kwara CAN deliberately deceived Christian faithful by calling on them to attend a prayer session at St. Barnabas Cathedral which turned out to be an obnoxious theatre for fanning embers of discord among peace loving people of Kwara state.

That the undesirable elements were obviously sponsored by an opposing party to the popular All Progressives Congress (APC) government of His Excellency, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed to forment trouble, create confusion and truncate our nascent democracy.

"Rather than concentrate on prayers for peaceful election, in March and April, 2015, this Ajolore-led group mustered Nigeria's financial resources to sponsor the grassroots level and deliberately discredit and misinform the public about the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Mohammed Buhari. Is Kwara CAN now a political party or an arm of a political party? Where did Kwara CAN raise funds to go into political canvassing at the grassroots instead of missionary works? Definitely this is from the N7billion presidency largesse. Are we to use Nigerian resources to destroy our fellow brothers and sisters?

"We observed and we are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the obnoxious dubious seminar is a calculated attempt by a handful of misguided, timid and demon-minded elements hiding under the cover of a section of CAN, Kwara, to discredit and stain the good marks of His Excellency Alh. (Dr.) AbdulFatah Ahmed who has been and continues to be a champion of peace, progress and harmony through his Christian-friendly programmes and policies especially in the area of appointing Christians to political offices. For example it goes on record that the Christendom have never had it so good especially in the area of appointment."
