Commissioner assures council workers of prompt payment of salaries

The Kwara State Government had assured local government council workers of prompt payment of their salary.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Sha’aba Umar disclosed this while on a familiarization visit to Kaiama local government council.

The Commissioner said the delay in the salary of council workers was as a result of dwindling allocation from the Federation Account which had affected the smooth running of the third tier of government.

Alhaji Umar, however assured them the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed had ensured that all the workers are paid as and when due.

He lamented that the shortfall in revenue had stagnated ongoing developmental projects embarked upon in the state.

On Internally Generated Revenue (IGR),the Commissioner implored the council boss to intensify more effort so as to complement the augmentation from the state government.

He maintained that the state government had been augmenting local government allocation through the Joint Account Allocation Committee(JAAC) in order to allow them meet their statutory responsibility and other sundry expenses.

In his contribution, the chairman of Kaiama local government, Alhaji Al-hassan Bagudu thanked the commissioner for finding time to visit the council despite his tight schedule and also enlightened the council management on the hindrances affecting the smooth running of the council.

He assured the commissioner that the council would improve on its IGR so as to complement the allocation from the government.

Alhaji Bagudu disclosed that, despite the continuous shortfall of allocation, his administration had been able to carried out a lot developmental projects such as construction of bridges at Wuruma, Pissio River, renovation and well furnished local government Model Nursery/Primary school and complete renovation and well furnished Kaiama local government Primary Health Centre, among others.

Earlier at the Palace of the Emir, the Commissioner said he was in the Palace to seek the royal blessing and the permission of the royal father before going to the council secretariat.

The Commissioner commended the Emir for the maintenance of peace in his domain.

He assured continuous support of the state government for the welfare of the traditional institution in the state.

In his remark, the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji M S Omar  appreciated the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah on laudable projects embarked upon and executed in the local government.

He commended the government on the renovation and equipping of the Kaiama General hospital and the Kaiama-Kisi road project under reconstruction which would open way for accelerated development and improve socio-economic activities of the council and the state at large.

The Emir thanked the Commissioner and his entourage for finding time to pay him a courtesy visit and assured him of the continuous support of people of the domain to the present administration.
