Group empowers Kwara squash players
Thirteen Kwara squash players on Tuesday benefitted from the special intervention programme of Gbenga Power Foundation (GP), aimed at assisting their rapid development in the sport.
The programme, which was initiated in August, was on Tuesday backed up by the Foundation, as the 13 players got N25, 000 each as financial support.
Making the presentation on behalf of the donor, Kwara State First Lady, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, charged the players to get serious with their education, which according to her, will assist their sports career, as they will also have something to fall back on after retirement. She also commended the Foundation for the gesture.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Saheed Popoola, said the special intervention was initiated to help the players develop rapidly and assist the development of squash in the state.
He commended the Foundation for the support, while also charging it to sustain the gesture to ensure total development of the sport in the state.
He also commended Mrs. Ahmed for her support and advice to the young squash players.
Founder of Gbenga Power Foundation, Gbenga Stephen, said that as part of his efforts to develop squash in Kwara State and Nigeria, plans are on to build two squash courts in the state.
Feruke Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of parents of the benefitting players, commended the Kwara State government for providing the enabling environment for the youths to exhibit their God-given talents.
The beneficiaries are Abdullahi Hameed, Balogun Abdulmaleeq, Durosinlorun Uthman, Feruke Abdulmajeed, Balogun Ibrahim, Giwa Shuaib, Soliu Faidat, Abdulazeez Rafiat, Soliu Raheemat, Ismaila Abubakar, Adeyi Odunade, Olufunmilayo Gabriel and Bilikisu Mogaji.
